The Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley is hosting the 8th annual LUNAFEST in Santa Clarita, showcasing the work of talented women directors from all over the world. LUNAFEST, a traveling film festival of short films by, for, and about women, will be screened at the Canyon Theatre Guild. A Cinco de Mayo-style dinner with wine is included. SCV Zonta LUNAFEST will also feature commentary by local documentary filmmaker Sally Colón-Petree. Colón-Petree produced a documentary on female genital mutilation, human trafficking and the organizations that lead the fight against such abuse of women.
Proceeds from LUNAFEST benefit the Zonta Club’s programs and projects that empower women locally and worldwide. The local projects include “Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women” campaign, LifeForward - a series of workshop for women that advance economic independence and self-sufficiency, and Girls Robotics - a program is designed to foster interest and skills in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.
