Welcome to LUNAFEST in Prince Albert! Our event is a fundraiser for the YWCA Prince Albert. Doors open at 6:30 pm, and we will screen the short film selections at 7:00 pm. We will be accepting cash donations at the door, and will have donation forms on hand for those wishing to make a larger contribution.
LUNAFEST was the first all-women travelling film festival. Given that there are 2.13 male short-film directors for every 1 female director, there are 2.13 male voices to every 1 female voice heard. 2.13 male stories told to every 1 story told by a woman. This event is about the power of women and ensuring that their voices are heard - a message that aligns very well with the work done by the YWCA. LUNAFEST aims to make women feel inspired, admired, represented, powerful and heard through this selection of eight films, with a total running time of 85 minutes.
The YWCA of Prince Albert provides shelter, food and assistance to marginalized populations, helping to break the cycle of poverty. They offer life skills programs, advocacy and support to help individuals transition from their emergency homeless shelter to their transitional housing programs onto to their permanent housing programs. They offer homes for young mothers, for woman escaping domestic violence, for youth in care, as well as a homeless shelter. It is the Y's hope that by supporting marginalized populations through their journey they are able to be part of the solution to ending poverty. They also offer a number of services and programs for Newcomers to Canada and the Prince Albert Region.
