THE LUNAFEST LEGACY

Since 2000, LUNAFEST has been celebrating women filmmakers, showcasing their films and talents in communities throughout the United States and Canada.

Today, of the 250 top-grossing films, fewer than 5% have been made by women. At LUNAFEST, we believe in the power of female filmmakers – their distinctive perspective and approach sharply counters so much in the mainstream media. We also believe in the importance of giving these important works legs, celebrating these untold stories and sharing them in communities large and small.

LUNAFEST has a legacy of featuring notable and up-and-coming women filmmakers. From accomplished filmmakers and aspiring indie stars, to amateur filmmakers and film students, LUNAFEST looks at films from around the globe. The selected films will be shown at over 100 venues and viewed by more than 20,000 people in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, LUNA awards all selected filmmakers with $1,000.
